Syphilis test- The way to detect syphilis

Sexually Transmitted Diseases are common for people with active multiple partners. However, certain STDs can be cured, if they are detected early in the progression of the disease. Syphilis is a disease which is silent after the initial stages and can only be determined properly by a syphilis test.

Symptoms of Syphilis

The common symptoms of Syphilis occur over many stages. At each stage an infected person may experience a different symptom. The four stages of syphilis are primary, secondary, latent and tertiary. In the primary stage, the symptoms include a sore, lesion, chancre or ulcer which maybe painful. This can appear in the internal and external genitalia or even on the lips, breasts or anus. Often at this stage, people confuse syphilis with another disease. Hence, the best step is to perform a syphilis test if one of the symptoms appears and this is also the best stage at which the test should be conducted.

In the secondary stage, the symptoms of syphilis are rashes on the body, which may last for 1 to 1.5 months, accompanied by fatigue, fever, swollen glands, sore throat and loss of hair. Often this step is misdiagnosed as being malnutrition and hence, one should either contact a doctor or perform a syphilis test in order to check whether the person is suffering from syphilis.

The latent stage of syphilis is asymptomatic (ie. there are no symptoms) and not as contagious. However the disease is progressing. This is one of the most dangerous stages of syphilis and since it is latent, it cannot be easily determined that a person is suffering from syphilis. Only a Syphilis test will be able to detect the disease.

The last stage of the disease is the tertiary or the final stage. Tertiary syphilis may occur approximately 3 to 15 years after the initial infection, and may be divided into three different forms: gummatous syphilis, late neurosyphilis (which affects the central nervous system), and cardiovascular syphilis.
